Dear colleagues!
The license agreement is concluded with authors after the editorial board has accepted the article for publication. After receiving information about the acceptance of manuscript for publication in the journal, we kindly ask authors to download the file of agreement, print it, sign it, scan it, and upload it from the author’s personal account to the website.
Authors are asked to follow the Author Guidelines while preparing manuscripts for publication in Siberian Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine. The guidelines are developed based on the requirements of Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation and the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly work in Medical Journals developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors: www.ICMJE.org. The implementation and description of all scientific works must comply with international recommendations and checklists for different research designs, in accordance with international standards (EQUATOR), improving their quality. Brief editorial recommendations for describing the results of the most common research designs are published in the journal issue No. 4 for 2021.
The Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation recommends the Siberian Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine for the publication of manuscripts on the following groups of scientific specialties:

Terms of manuscript publication
- Materials prepared as *.doc or *.docx files should be submitted to Editorial Board solely online through the official website at https://www.sibjcem.ru/jour
- The editors do not charge authors for planned preparation for publication (review, editing, proofreading, layout) and the publication of the article manuscript itself. Additional paid services are provided at the request of the authors.
- Only copyright-safe original materials, which have never been published before are subject to consideration. All submitted manuscripts are checked for plagiarism, duplicate publication, and falsification. At least 70% of content of a submitted manuscript should be unique. An article may be retracted from publication if a significant part of the manuscript is found published online or in the printed form elsewhere.
- We encourage our authors to submit the manuscripts prepared in the English language. The guidelines for the preparation of manuscripts in English are similar to those in Russian. Submission of an English version of the manuscript, which has been previously published in another language elsewhere, is considered self-plagiarism, and such manuscripts will be rejected.
- Manuscripts eligible for publication should be well-structured, relevant, and novel must provide a background, statement of a problem or a hypothesis, detailed description of main methods and results, and conclusion. The manuscripts must adhere to the article submission guidelines of our journal.
- The journal gives priority to manuscripts containing the results of original research.
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are welcome. Critical reviews, subject field reviews, narrative reviews, and bibliometric reviews are also accepted. Thematic literature reviews should be a scientific work on a topical issue, with a clearly formulated goal and analysis of information from modern sources. The review should contain the actual methods of information search (platforms, websites, databases, software tools), provide the keywords used, information on the number of sources found (PRISMA protocol and checklist). The review should also present the view of the authors and conclusions summarizing the existing gaps in knowledge. The use of specialized software tools is recommended (e.g., https://www.mendeley.com/reference-management/reference-manager; https://www.vosviewer.com/).
- Although not a priority, descriptions of clinical cases of clear scientific interest and accompanied by discussion and scientific interpretation are published.
- Authors of all manuscripts must adhere to the Declaration of Association of Scientific Editors and Publishers “Ethical principles of scientific publications” (https://rasep.ru/sovet-po-etike/deklaratsiya).
- Research and development projects involving human subjects should comply with the ethical standards (please refer to the WMA Declaration of Helsinki – Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects, 2000) and “Good Clinical Practice in the Russian Federation” approved by the order of Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation No. 266 from 19.06.2003. All subjects enrolled in research must provide informed consent to participate in the study if relevant. Protocol number of Ethics Committee approval should be provided.
- Animal research must be carried out in accordance with the principles of humanity stated in the prescriptions of the European Community (86/609/EEC) and the Declaration of Helsinki. Protocol number of Ethics Committee approval should be provided.
Generation of medical or diagnostic images using generative artificial intelligence (GAI) technologies is not allowed. Basic tools for checking grammar, spelling, editing journal references are not included in the GAI concept. Authors may use GAI (large language models, generative chatbots, machine learning methods) to create the text of the manuscript and for its design. In this case, in the Introduction or Methods section, authors must indicate the GAI technology used with the https address or other identifying information.
A license agreement is concluded with the authors of the work, the text of which can be found by clicking on the link. Please indicate your consent by checking the box in the form when submitting the manuscript.
- While submitting the manuscript, authors should attach a cover letter written in a separate file and addressed to the Chief Editor of the journal from the institution where the work was done. The cover letter must contain the following information:
- Publication of a manuscript does not violate anyone's copyright. Graphic illustrations of the manuscript are the property of the authors or borrowed under the terms of the CC BY license or with the permission of the owners of the illustrations.
- Manuscript is not under consideration in any other journal and has never been published before, provides full disclosure of study financial support and possible conflict of interest in the manuscript text and abstract
- Briefly formulated aim, scientific novelty and main results of the study
- All authors have read and approved the manuscript, bear full responsibility for all aspects of work including the authenticity of materials presented in the manuscript and guarantee the accuracy and integrity of materials
- Information about the authors' contribution into the manuscript creation
- Information about corresponding author (name, e-mail, phone number)
The issue date (from the moment the manuscript is received by the electronic editorial office) is from 5 months and depends on the following
factors: the quality and subject matter of the article itself, the speed of the authors' response to the comments of editors and reviewers, the fullness of the editorial portfolio, etc.
Instructions for manuscript preparation
Original articles (clinical studies, experimental studies, clinical cases) should be 18-25 thousand characters, literature reviews and lectures - 20-30 thousand, excluding the title, abstract, keywords, list of references, titles and contents of tables and figures, notes to tables and figure captions.
The text of manuscripts in doc/.docx format is typed with font Times New Roman 14 pt and 1.5 line spacing. Margins are 20 mm on four sides.
Text should not be overloaded with large number of tables and figures (up to 5 tables, up to 5 figures). The tables and figures must be well readable and placed immediately in the text of manuscript. Figures must be prepared as .jpeg or .tiff files with resolution at least 365 dpi. Resolution of line graphs must be at least 600 dpi. The use of vector graphics is encouraged. All graphic images (figures, graphs, schemes, and photographs) are named figures, have legend, and are consecutively numbered. We recommend submitting graphic images as separate files along with placing them in the manuscript. Headings of tables, table columns, and rows must be given in Russian and English languages. Figures and figure legends also must be given in Russian and English languages.
The editors of the journal pay great attention to the quality of illustrative material and evaluate it according to the following criteria: relevance, clarity, aesthetics, proportionality, readability, originality
Manuscript structure
The manuscripts presenting the results of original studies must follow the IMRAD structure i.e. they should contain the following sections:
- Title page
- Structured abstract
- Introduction
- Material and Methods
- Results
- Discussion (the sections Results and Discussion may be combined)
- Conclusion
- Acknowledgement
- References
- Author Contributions (if there are co-authors in Russian and English)
- Information about the authors (in Russian and English)
The reviews, lectures, articles on public health and healthcare as well as the abstracts of these papers may have an alternative structure.
EDITORIAL RECOMMENDATIONS on manuscript formatting to increase article citation:
- The title should be short (up to 13 words), clear, informative, and correspond to the scientific style of speech. The title should not contain words that can be dispensed with. It should clearly reflect the specifics of the main research topic presented in the manuscript.
- The title should include some of the keywords that reflect the essence of the article. They should stand at the beginning of the title.
- The type of study should be indicated in the title (retrospective, prospective, cohort, controlled review, description of a clinical case, etc.).
- It is recommended not to use abbreviations in the title, or to use only generally accepted ones.
5.Terms that correspond to the English terms MESH/EmTre should be used in translation of the title, abstract, keywords. To check compliance, it is convenient to use the service https://meshb.nlm.nih.gov/MeSHonDemand
- When translating the title of an article into English, transliterations from Russian should not be used, except for untranslatable objects that have their own names.
- Figures should be prepared in a vector graphics editor. A screenshot of a computer screen will not always be processed correctly by a search engine.
- For set phrases it is important to use the generally accepted number (singular or plural), especially when translating into English.
- Pay close attention to the correctness and relevance of your personal profile in Scopus https://www.scopus.com/freelookup/form/author.uri and ORCID https://orcid.org/?my-orcid= In fact, this is an opportunity to advertise your achievements for free.
The title page includes the following information in Russian and English languages:
- A title of work written with the lower case letters (the first letter is uppercase).
- The name(s) of the author(s) (Ivan I. Ivanov)
- The official affiliation (without indicating their legal form: Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education, etc.) and their postal address. The abbreviated name of the organization is indicated in brackets (for example, Cardiology Research Institute, Tomsk NRMC). Superscript Arabic numerals indicate the correspondence of the institutions in which the authors work
- Authors are recommended to check the English name of the institution on the website https://grid.ac. Responsibility for the correct spelling of the author's full name and affiliation in Russian and English lies with the author responsible for correspondence with the editors. The correctness of this information should be agreed upon between the members of the author's team before submitting the manuscript to the journal.
- Resource Support: contains information about the material support for the study. It is appropriate to provide brief information about the high-tech equipment used, which is the property of the institution.
- Funding: contains information about the financial support for the scientific research. Here it is appropriate to provide information about the funding of the work (state assignment, budget funding, names of foundations, numbers and names of grants and scholarships, thanks to which this research was carried out and published).
The abstract serves as a source of information independently on the manuscript and presents the essence of paper with emphasis on new data, main hypothesis, and conclusion. The word count of abstract should not exceed 300 words (1500-3000 characters, excluding spaces). The abstract written in high-quality language increases the chances of future citations of paper. The abstract in English language is the only source of information regarding the article content for English-speaking readers.
Abstracts of original papers must be structured and the structure should resemble that of the manuscript including the disclosure of conflict of interest. Unstructured abstracts with preserved general logics of narrative are acceptable for reviews, lectures, and articles in the field of public health and healthcare. At the end, the annotation should provide the list of three to eight keywords to reference the main content of the article.
The abstract should be structured, repeating the structure of the article. For example, the abstract of original research consists of the following sections (IMRAD structure):
- Rationale (general context of the study).
- Purpose and scope of the study.
- Methodology and research methods (brief description).
- Results (most significant).
- Conclusion, findings or recommendations.
The abstract should avoid introductory phrases, general formulations, and should not contain undeciphered abbreviations, acronyms, or symbols. The active voice should be used for presentation, not the passive voice (“the study showed…”, not “the study showed…”), and complex syntactic constructions should be avoided. The abstract ends with a list of keywords and phrases (up to 10) that reflect the main content of the article and are extremely important for its detection by search bots and increased citation. Preferably, 3-4 phrases of 2-3 words each. We recommend including keywords specific to the topic of the article in the title of the article (preferably at the beginning), as well as in the text of the abstract and article (preferably close to each other). This increases the likelihood of finding the article by search engines.
NEW!!!
After the Abstract there should be a section "Main Idea of the Article". It should briefly describe the main results obtained and/or the main hypothesis being tested and/or the originality of the clinical case. The section should be up to 500 characters long, excluding spaces.
Introduction
The Introduction section provides rationale and clearly states the aim of study. It is essential to provide an explanation for the readers regarding what exactly motivated authors to undertake the research: the presence of unsolved or poorly understood question, controversy between data generated by different authors, emergence of a new material or unique model, or new insights into the available data. Why the chosen problem is essential and interesting? Citations of previous research in the introductory part of manuscript are mandatory.
Material and Methods
The Material and Methods section provides a description of study groups with a mandatory description of a number of patients/animals in the given group and their characteristics. Study design is described. Specify the inclusion/exclusion criteria for participants, conditions of randomization and masking of interventions (if any), primary and secondary outcomes, including methods and timing of their assessment. Manuscripts of articles in which the study design does not correspond to its purpose and objectives may be rejected by the editors of the journal. Brief editorial recommendations for describing the results of the most common study designs are published in issue No. 4 for 2021.
It is necessary to describe the methods of statistical data processing and software used for a justification of the conclusion. Obtained data, if possible, should be presented in numerical representation with the corresponding parameters of variability of measurements (confidence intervals, interquartile range, etc.). It is necessary to define all used statistical terms, abbreviations, and acronyms. If the variable can be calculated by different methods, then authors should specify what method was applied (for example, Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients, etc.). If the statistical criteria have limitations, it is necessary to specify the approach to and results of testing those limitations, for example, normal distribution law when parametric criteria are used. In each given case, it is recommended to present factual value of achieved significance level for the statistical criterion used. The manuscripts, which present significant volume of experimental data without proper statistical analysis, may be rejected by the editorial board. The description of the section should be sufficient to allow other researchers to reproduce the results obtained.
Results
The results of investigation are given in logical flow in the form of text, tables, and/or figures. It is necessary to avoid repetition of data from tables or figures in the text; the most significant results are highlighted and unexpected ones for the authors are not hidden. The presence of an internal structure of the section is preferable. It is necessary to try to visualize the obtained results as much as possible with your illustrative material.
Discussion
Contains an interpretation of the obtained material and its comparison with similar works by other authors. The correspondence or contradiction of the obtained data to the formulated hypothesis is indicated; the limitations of the experiment performed, proposals for the practical application of the results and the development of future research are discussed.
Conclusion
The Conclusion summarizes the sections of manuscript without redundancy and repetition of statements, which have been already presented. The Conclusion of work should be confirmed by the results of statistical analysis and should not be of merely declaratory signification.
Acknowledgement
The members of the team who took part in the study but do not meet the authorship criteria are listed (with their consent).
References
The list of sources of information is drawn up as a single list, regardless of the language of the original source. Providing the literature sources in the References section must be justified by the logics of manuscript. The correct assessment of the publication indicators of authors and organizations, including in foreign databases, depends on the correct presentation of sources of information
Bibliographic information should be current, authoritative and comprehensive; references are given to primary sources. The list of cited sources should preferably include works published within the last 5-10 years, preferably by domestic authors. In original articles (clinical studies, experimental studies, case reports) no more than 20 sources should be cited, in literature reviews - no more than 50. Self-citation by authors is allowed in the amount of no more than 10% of the number of sources of information.
References to articles without DOI are undesirable; verification of the indicated DOI by the authors is mandatory. References to dissertations, abstracts, materials published in conference proceedings, congresses, etc. are highly undesirable. If necessary, these sources of information can be indicated as footnotes without inclusion in the list of references. References to publications by agreement with their authors as fulfillment of mutual obligations are unacceptable.
The accuracy of bibliography data is the responsibility of the author. Authors should format the bibliography for both Russian and international sources using the AMA version of Vancouver style (https://www.amamanualofstyle.com/page/1173). Authors should cite references in numerical order according to the first mention in the manuscript using square brackets and numbers [1, 2]. Reference list formatting complies with the requirements of Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) and international databases.
General rules:
- The bibliography originally written in other languages must be given in Latin.
- The authors' names and the output data of articles and books are transliterated; it is recommended to use the system http://www.translit.ru. If the journals have a parallel English-language title, then this version of the title is used (or a link for citation in English is published - For citation). The titles of periodicals can be written in abbreviated form in accordance with GOST 7.12-93. Some accepted abbreviations of the titles of Russian-language medical journals are given on the website http://iramn.ru/for_authors/; for foreign journals, it is permissible to use abbreviations generally accepted in professional literature.
- The titles of articles and books are presented in English. It is preferable to use translations of the titles that are available in the original Russian-language publications; if there is no translation in the original publication, they are transliterated (http://www.translit.ru). If it is necessary to use links to sources of information in other languages, they are formatted in the same way as in Russian.
- Information from English-language sources in the list remains unchanged.
The order of bibliographic description of various sources of information:
- In the bibliographic description of the book authors’ last names with initials. All authors must be listed if six or less; if more than six authors, retain first six authors and put “et al.”
- Title of a book or an article.
- Output data: the city where the book was published (in full), after a colon – the name of the publisher, after a semicolon – the year of publication. After the year, a colon is placed and the number of pages in the book is indicated. Exceptions in Russian are Moscow (M.) and Saint Petersburg (SPb.).
- If the reference is to a chapter from a book, the authors and chapter title are listed first, followed by a period with a capital letter "In:", then the last name(s) of the author(s) or editor acting in their capacity, then the title of the book and its imprint.
- The bibliographic description of an article from a journal includes the authors' surnames and initials (six authors, etc.), then the title of the article. After the period, the journal's name is written in italics; after it, a period is placed. Then the year of publication of the journal is indicated; volume (journal number): page numbers "from" and "to". Numerical indicators are indicated without spaces for better recognition by bots and programs.
- If the cited material has a DOI (Digital Object Identifier), it must be indicated at the very end of the bibliographic reference.
